Preparedness is the key to survival in any disaster, and having a disaster supply kit available can aid in injury prevention and recovery. Below is a list of items for a disaster supply kit for 3 or 4 days only.

| Plastic containers to hold disaster supply kit |
| 2 flashlights & extra batteries |
| 1 portable tool kit |
| 1 full roll of duct tape |
| Utility knife |
| Tarps to cover a leaky roof, etc. |
| 1 battery-operated radio with extra batteries |
| Blankets, pillows or sleeping bag for each member of the household |
| Several towels |
| Books or games for entertainment |
| Road map and directions to shelters, hospital, police |
| Extra clothing and shoes for each member of the household |
| Food Items: |
| 3 to 5 cans of meat for each member of the household (i.e., tuna, chicken, chili, beef stew, corned beef, etc.) |
| 3 to 5 cans of ready-to-eat soup for each member of the household |
| 3 to 5 cans of vegetables for each member of the household |
| 3 to 5 cans of fruit for each member of the household |
| 1 box of heavy-duty garbage bags with ties |
| 1 box zip-lock food storage bags for storing important papers and small items |
| 1 hand-operated can opener |
| 3 to 5 gallons of water for each member of the household, including pets |
| 1 gal. of bleach to sterilize for drinking water if needed (7 drops per gal of water) |
| 2 containers/boxes quick energy snacks (granola bars, nuts, raisins, trail mix) |
| 1 jar of peanut butter |
| 2 loaves of bread |
| 2 large cans of juice (not concentrate) |
| 1 package of assorted plastic utensils |
| 1 package of paper plates and bowls |
| 2 rolls of paper towels |
| 6 roll pack of toilet paper |
